In Sanskrit, the word “Uddhara” means “Lift yourself up” or “Rise up!” It carries a call to action—urging one to elevate their inner state. A similar expression appears in the Bhagavad Gita (6.5), where Krishna says, “uddhared ātmanātmānaṁ”—“Let one uplift the self by the Self.” It’s a powerful reminder that the path to liberation begins from within. No one else can walk it for us. Like a rocket preparing to break through the atmosphere. Tremendous force is required to overcome the pull of gravity—but once it does, a whole new realm opens up. Just like that, the teachings of Advaita Vedanta invite us to rise up from the heaviness of limitation, ignorance, and suffering, and launch into the boundless freedom of our true nature: infinite consciousness.
